Health Tip: Use Caution With Air Fresheners

Did you know that using air fresheners in your home and car may be harmful to your health? Air fresheners contain formaldehyde which is a carcinogen known to cause respiratory problems. Exposure to the chemicals in air freshener may increase your chances of developing the symptoms of asthma, experiencing eye irritation and developing skin problems. Research has also demonstrated a link to cancer.

Be especially careful using air fresheners around babies and small children. Solid air fresheners usually cause death if eaten, and little ones are constantly putting things in their mouths. Read the directions on your air fresheners. Most of them state do not inhale, may be fatal if inhaled or use only in a well-ventilated room. These are your warning clues of the dangers. Is it possible to not inhale the air in your home or car?

  1. This is definitely something that everyone needs to know about. The chemicals that are inside air fresheners have been listed as human carcinogens and they are industrial pesticides... so why do we inhale them?

    Di-chlorobenzene is the first one that springs to mind, but it is definitely not an isolated case.
